Yes. Firstly, you need to fulfill the prerequisites stated above. Secondly, your application to join the class is subject to the teacher’s approval.
The retreat teaches the basics of Equanimity method and the hindrances of meditation. These are basic knowledge that every participant should have before they can join the Equanimity Improvement Class.
The Morning Meditation Class is an extension of the Equanimity Weekend Retreat in that it allows participants to clarify their doubts with the Equanimity method and gain further Dhamma knowledge on meditation. This is necessary to ensure that you have sufficient practice, knowledge and lesser doubts to benefit from the Equanimity Improvement Class.
This is to show the teacher that participants have been practicing the Equanimity method for at least 3 months so that they are familiar with the method. It is pointless to join the class if the participants have little to no experience in the meditation method as the class will be solely focused on improving the practice on using the Equanimity meditation method.
This is for the teacher to check that your practice and knowledge are sufficient to benefit from the class. Also, since the teacher will be spending more time and effort giving individual interviews, he has to ensure that you are serious about improving your meditation using the Equanimity method.
All participants need to submit weekly meditation logs and reflections. They may even be required to submit reflections on various topics given by the teacher. The meditation logs will help the teacher ensure that every participant is practicing regularly and errors can be detected through the reflections. Finally, comments for every participant will be given during lessons on changes to be made in order to improve.
Participants are expected to submit meditation logs and reflections and attend the class every week.
Even absent from class with valid reasons, participants still need to submit their weekly meditation logs and reflections. They will need to watch the recorded videos for the lessons that they missed to catch up with the progress of the class.
